The clock is wrong

109

Minutes Madrid's clock runs ahead of the sun, averaged across every day of 2026.

The figure everyone repeats is 60. That is the winter zone offset, not the thing you live.

It was temporary

An order of 7 March 1940 moved the legal hour forward by sixty minutes. Article 5 said a date would be set to put it back.

Eighty-six years later, no date. The order never names Germany either, despite how the story is usually told.

Nobody eats late

Convert the quoted times to solar time and Spanish lunch at 14:00 lands at 12:11. British lunch at 13:00 lands at 12:25.

Spanish lunch is 14 minutes earlier than British lunch. Dinner is later by 46 minutes, not by two hours.

There is no six-month grace period in the law, despite how often that is repeated.
